State-owned Pertamina’s subsidiary Kilang Pertamina Internasional has upgraded the refinery increasing its capacity from 260,000 bpd to 360,000 bpd, making it the largest refinery in the Asian nation.

Recent offshore developments continue to strengthen East Kalimantan's energy sector.The Merakes East gas field in the Kutei Basin recently commenced production, adding approximately 18,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and supplying both domestic and export markets through Bontang LNG facilities.
